Understand pages, learning pages, questions, and self-assessment in Yuhimo.

Core Concepts covers the basic Yuhimo model: pages are the main unit; learning pages are pages with learning enabled; nested pages organize knowledge; questions are optional recall prompts; and self-assessment controls review grading.

Yuhimo is page-first, not flashcard-first. Questions support pages, but do not replace them. Learning is enabled only for pages you want to review.

The Yuhimo mental model

The core flow in Yuhimo looks like this:

  1. Normal page
  2. Optional learning enabled
  3. Learning page
  4. Review session
  5. Self-assessment grade
  6. Next review date
  • A page can stay a normal note forever.
  • Learning can be turned on when the page contains something worth remembering.
  • Questions can be added if they help recall.
  • Review grades are based on your own recall.

The page tree stays valid when you move pages: a page cannot be moved into itself or into its own descendants. Deleting a parent moves its subtree to trash.

Pages come first

  • The page is the main source of context.
  • Questions are attached to pages.
  • Learning state belongs to pages.
  • Review sessions work with learning pages.
  • This is different from systems where the main object is a flashcard.

Learning is optional

  • Not every page should become a learning page.
  • Some pages are reference notes.
  • Some pages are temporary drafts.
  • Some pages are worth actively reviewing.
  • You decide which pages enter the learning system.

Questions are optional

  • Questions help create recall attempts.
  • A page can have no questions.
  • A page can still be reviewed without questions.
  • Questions do not automatically make a page due.
  • AI-generated questions should still be reviewed and edited.

Self-assessment drives reviews

  • Yuhimo does not automatically check your answers.
  • You decide how well you recalled the page.
  • Again, Hard, Good, and Easy update scheduling.
  • Honest grading matters more than trying to game the system.
