A regular page becomes a learning page when you turn on learning.
New learning pages do not immediately behave like long-term review items. They first go through a short learning phase focused on initial acquisition.
After the page graduates, it enters review — long-term spaced repetition with different intervals and grading rules.
Two phases, two behaviors
Yuhimo treats newly enabled learning pages differently from pages that have already graduated. The learning phase uses short steps so new material gets enough early passes. The review phase uses longer intervals so retention stays stable over time.
The same Again, Hard, Good, and Easy ratings appear in both phases, but what happens after each grade depends on which phase the page is in.
Learning phase
The learning phase is for initial acquisition. When you first turn on learning, the page starts here with a near-term first review.
After you grade the page, it can return when its next short learning step becomes due — not only on a future calendar day.
Typical intervals after each grade are:
- Again — about 15 minutes
- Hard — about 8 hours
- Good — about 24 hours
- Easy — about 3 days
Because these steps are short, a learning-phase page may be graded more than once on the same calendar day. For example, if you choose Again in the morning, the page can become due again later that afternoon.
Learning-phase pages appear in the main review session or a scoped learning session when their next step is due.
Graduation to review
A page graduates from learning to review after three cumulative Good or Easy successes.
- Hard does not count toward graduation.
- Again resets the learning success count.
- After graduation, the page enters long-term review scheduling.
Graduation is a milestone, not a penalty. It means Yuhimo has seen enough successful early passes to move the page into spaced repetition with longer intervals.
Review phase
The review phase is for long-term retention. After graduation, Yuhimo schedules the page using FSRS-light concepts: stability, difficulty, retrievability, and due date.
In review, each page can receive only one grade per calendar day. This keeps long-term scheduling stable and prevents repeated same-day grades from pushing intervals too far or too close.
Review intervals are usually much longer than learning steps — days or weeks instead of minutes or hours.

Why the distinction matters
Without a separate learning phase, new material could be pushed too far into the future after a single strong grade. Short early steps give new pages enough passes while memory is still forming.
Without a review-phase daily limit, repeated same-day grades could distort long-term scheduling. One grade per calendar day in review keeps intervals honest and predictable.
This distinction also explains common surprises: a page may return the same afternoon during learning, but stop accepting another grade the same day after it graduates. Two pages with the same title in your mind can behave differently if one is still in learning and the other is in review.
