Vendor lock-in

Lock-in is not only about whether export exists. It also includes how usable exported content is in another workflow.

A product can technically export data but still make it hard to reuse. A good portability workflow should preserve the useful meaning of the content as much as possible.

• Notes should remain readable.
• Page titles should remain understandable.
• Links should remain visible.
• Structure should be understandable where possible.
• Learning-specific scheduling behavior may not work in another app.

Export is for portability. It helps you keep a copy of your notes outside Yuhimo.

Export can be useful for archiving, moving notes, reviewing content elsewhere, or reducing dependency on one tool. It should make content usable outside the app as much as the current implementation supports.

Yuhimo can export notes into readable formats such as HTML, TXT, and PDF. Page subtrees can be exported as a ZIP archive in HTML or TXT format. Exact behavior may vary by format and Yuhimo version.

Readable export may not preserve every Yuhimo-specific behavior. Do not assume the following transfer to another tool:

• exact learning schedule and due dates
• review history
• FSRS-light state such as stability, difficulty, and retrievability
• one-grade-per-day state
• app-specific UI state
• internal IDs
• AI generation history
• exact nested page behavior in another tool

If you need a restorable copy of pages, questions, and learning progress, use backup instead of treating export as a full data migration.

Export helps with portability. Backup helps with recovery.

Exported content may be useful outside Yuhimo, but it may not restore the full app state. Backup is the safer workflow for recovery from accidental deletion, corruption, or unwanted changes.

Backups are primarily for recovery inside Yuhimo. Full workspace, single-page, and subtree backups preserve structured data that can be restored later.

When you restore a backup, Yuhimo adds restored content as copies. It does not overwrite or delete your current workspace. You can optionally preserve study state on restore.

Backup is useful for safety, but it is not the same as moving to another tool. A backup file is meant for Yuhimo restore, not as a generic interchange format for every notes app.

Yuhimo’s learning system is page-based. Scheduling data is meaningful inside Yuhimo.

Other tools may not understand Yuhimo’s FSRS-light state. If you export notes, the text may still be useful, but review schedule behavior may not transfer.

Do not assume exported learning pages will behave as scheduled review items in another product.

Questions are optional prompts attached to pages. They are not separate flashcards in Yuhimo’s core model.

Whether questions appear in a given export depends on the selected format and current Yuhimo version. Do not assume all question data is included in every readable export.

If questions are exported, treat them as prompts, not automatic flashcards. In another tool, you may need to adapt them manually. The page remains the main source of knowledge.

Pages may contain links to external resources. Those links can break or become unavailable over time.

Write important takeaways directly in the page. Yuhimo does not store files, images, or videos directly inside pages. Use links to external resources instead.

Export may preserve links, but not necessarily the external content behind them.

Does Yuhimo lock me in?

Yuhimo reduces lock-in through export where supported, but not every app-specific behavior can be expected to transfer to another tool. Write clear pages and export when portability matters.

Is export enough for backup?

No. Export is mainly for portability and readable copies. Backup is for recovery and restore inside Yuhimo.

Will my review schedule work in another app?

Not necessarily. Yuhimo’s scheduling state is app-specific. Another app may not understand FSRS-light values, due dates, or review history from Yuhimo.

Can I export questions?

It depends on the export format and current Yuhimo version. Readable export focuses on page content. Do not assume all question data is included unless you verify the export you created.

Why should I write key takeaways inside the page?

External links can disappear or change. A page should remain useful later even if the original source is unavailable.

Does backup restore replace my current workspace?

No. Restore adds restored content as copies. Your current pages are not overwritten or deleted.
