Session types in Yuhimo
Understand the different session flows in Yuhimo: learning sessions, review sessions, and scoped sessions.

In Yuhimo, a session is a focused flow where you recall learning pages and choose Again, Hard, Good, or Easy.
Which pages appear — and what happens after you grade — depends on the session type and whether each page is still in the learning phase or already in long-term review.
You may use different sessions to learn new material, clear your global review queue, or focus on one topic in your page tree.
Three common goals
- Learn new material — pages still in the learning phase whose next short step is due
- Review due material — graduated pages in the review phase whose review date has arrived
- Focus on a subtree — scoped sessions for a selected branch or topic

Learning-phase session
A learning-phase session is for pages still in initial acquisition — before they graduate to long-term review.
It shows learning-phase pages whose next short learning step is due now. Typical step intervals are minutes to a few days (for example, Again after about 15 minutes, Good after about 24 hours).
This flow is separate from the global review session. It exists so new material can get enough early passes and move toward graduation, not so every page shares one long-term queue on day one.
- Pages may return later the same day when their next learning step becomes due
- Good and Easy count toward graduation; Hard does not; Again resets graduation progress
- Grading uses short learning steps, not the review-phase one-grade-per-day limit
When you open a learning-phase session, Yuhimo works through the pages that were due at the start of that visit. After you finish those steps, a page can become due again later if its interval has passed — including the same calendar day.
Global review session
The global review session is your main daily flow for long-term retention. It includes review-phase pages whose review date is today or overdue.
When you start a review session, Yuhimo builds a working list of due review-phase pages — up to 15 pages for that day’s session. That list is fixed once the session starts: new due pages do not silently join mid-session.
If more than 15 review-phase pages are due, Yuhimo includes the first 15 in today’s session order. Remaining due pages stay available for a future session or another day.
- After grading, Yuhimo updates FSRS-light scheduling (stability, difficulty, retrievability, and the next due date)
- Each review-phase page can receive only one grade per calendar day
- If you choose Again, the page does not immediately return in the same session; it waits for its next scheduled review

Scoped sessions
A scoped session is started from a page or branch you choose. It limits review to learning pages inside that subtree instead of your whole workspace.
Scoped sessions are primarily for review-phase pages. They help you focus on one topic without changing how normal scheduling works elsewhere.
Yuhimo supports two scoped modes:
- Due only — review-phase pages in the scope whose review date is due or overdue
- Deep dive — a broader focused pass inside the scope, including review-phase pages that are not due yet but have not been graded today
Scoped sessions are for focused study, not a second schedule. Ratings still update each page’s real learning state. Review-phase pages in scope still follow one grade per calendar day.
Scoped sessions do not use the global session’s 15-page cap. They can include every eligible review-phase page inside the chosen branch for that mode. Pages still in the learning phase are not included — use the learning-phase session for those.

- Do I need both a learning-phase session and a review session?
- Only if you have pages in both phases with steps or reviews due. Many days you may use one, the other, or both.
- Can a learning-phase page appear in the global review session?
- No. The global review session is for review-phase pages. Learning-phase pages use the separate learning-phase session when their short step is due.
- Can scoped sessions include learning-phase pages?
- Scoped sessions focus on review-phase pages inside your chosen branch. Learning-phase work uses the learning-phase session or manual grading from the page.
- What is the difference between due only and deep dive?
- Due only stays close to pages whose review date has arrived. Deep dive is a broader focused pass inside the scope, including pages not due yet that have not been graded today.
- Will Again put a page back into the same review session?
- Not in the global review session. Review-phase pages do not loop back the same day. Learning-phase pages can return when their next short step is due.
- How many pages can a global review session include?
- Up to 15 review-phase pages that are due or overdue. The list is fixed when the session starts.
- Is there a 15-page limit in scoped sessions?
- No. Scoped sessions can include all eligible review-phase pages in the chosen branch for that mode. The 15-page cap applies only to the global daily review session.
- If I grade a page in a scoped session, can I grade it again in the main session today?
- No, for review-phase pages. One review-grade per page per calendar day applies across global review, scoped sessions, and manual grading from the page.
