Use questions

Questions are review prompts attached to a page.

They help you focus on the parts of the page you want to remember. During review, you can use them as prompts to recall from memory before checking the answer.

A question does not replace the page. It simply helps you review the page more actively. For a deeper explanation, see Questions.

Open the page you want to review.

In the "Questions and Answers" section, use "Create new Q/A" to add a question and answer.

Write the question in a way that will help you recall one useful idea from the page.

The page must have learning enabled before it can appear in review sessions, but you can add questions before or after that.

Manual questions are often the most accurate.

You know what you want to remember, so you can write prompts that match your real goal.

For example, instead of asking "What is useEffect?", a better question may be "When does a useEffect cleanup function run?"

Manual questions work well for personal notes, technical details, project decisions, vocabulary, and exact concepts.

You can also generate questions with AI using "Create up to 5 Q/A with AI".

This adds prompts to the current page. To create first-draft pages from a topic, pasted text, or a file, see Create study material with AI.

This is useful when a page is long and you want a quick starting point.

Generated questions are not final. Review them, keep the useful ones, and edit or remove the weak ones.

1. Read the page title.
2. Try to answer each question from memory.
3. Reveal or check the answers.
4. Open the original page content if needed.
5. Choose Again, Hard, Good, or Easy based on your recall.

During review, try to answer the question before revealing the answer.

If you remember the important idea clearly, continue. If you are unsure, check the answer or open the page content.

After reviewing the page, choose the rating that best matches your recall. See Start a review session for the full flow.

Questions do not automatically grade your knowledge.

They help you check yourself, but the final rating is still your self-assessment.

Page: "React useEffect cleanup"

Good questions:

• When does a useEffect cleanup function run?
• Why is cleanup important for subscriptions?
• What happens before React runs the next effect?

Weak questions:

• What is React?
• Explain useEffect.
• What did this page say?

Good questions are specific and answerable. Weak questions are too broad, vague, or not focused on the thing you actually want to remember.

More questions are not always better.

Too many questions can make review slower and noisier. A few focused questions are usually more useful than a long list of shallow prompts.

Each question should focus on one idea.

You can review a page even if it has no questions.

Read the page title, try to recall the material, then open the page content to check yourself.

Questions are helpful, but they are not required. See How reviews work for the full review flow.

You create a page called "SQL indexes overview".

You turn on learning.

You add three questions:

• What problem do indexes solve?
• Why can too many indexes slow down writes?
• What is the difference between a primary index and a secondary index?

Later, during a review session, you answer each question from memory, check the answers, and choose Good because you remembered the main ideas.

Questions make reviews more active.

Use them as prompts, not as mandatory tests. Write or generate questions for the parts of a page that matter, edit them when needed, and rate your recall honestly after review.

Do I need questions to review a page?

No. Questions are optional. You can review a page by recalling the content and checking the original page.

Can AI create questions for me?

Yes. Yuhimo can generate questions from page content, but you should review and edit them.

Can I edit questions later?

Yes. You can edit, delete, or replace questions when they stop being useful.

Do questions affect the next review date?

Not directly. The next review date changes after you rate your recall with Again, Hard, Good, or Easy.

How many questions should I add?

Add enough to cover the important ideas. A few focused questions are usually better than many weak ones.

Are questions the same as flashcards?

No. Questions support a page, but the page remains the main learning unit in Yuhimo.
